SINÈAD O'CONNOR - NOTHING COMPARES 2 U - (SONG TRANSCRIPTION IN PHONETICAL FORMAT).

Hi, everyone...

It's always good when we meet and find, or even know somebody who makes part of our lives. It's also good when this person may help us learn and give us a chance to teach as well.

Today's song phonetic transcription is a tribute the singer "Prince" who wrote this beautiful music. "Nothing compares 2 U" is masterly sung by Sinèad O'Connor. Probably, this song was and still is the cradle for many loves and passions.

Now, regarding some points in the song, it's necessary to observe the way she pronounces the word "nothing" helps the learners to master the right way to speak the "TH" sound in many English words. For the learners, it is called "fricative linguo-dental".

Well, if you're a student, and you know something about phonemes, take your time and enjoy singing the song. Try to write down and sing along.

If you're a teacher, here's a suggestion to use the following methodology:

1 - play the song so that students listen to it;
2 - play it once more, but pausing after each part;
3 - ask them to try to write down the parts they've listened to;
4 - check up the words they've written down;
5 - provide them the lyrics in phonetical format;
6 - listen again, and make the corrections according to the song.

Make sure that this song is used only for didactical and pedagogical purposes. See that the chart contains the lyrics in phonetical format on the left side, and on the right, traced lines are provided so that students may write down the words as they listen to the song. Copy the image, paste it to a document in a word processor, and then share with your students.

It's advisable to check up if the song shows sentences containing more grammatical elements so that the teacher may explore the student's ability to listen to in the song. A good hint to use is to ask the students questions about what they noticed with more details in the song.

For intermediate and advanced students, the teacher may ask more complex questions regarding something dealt in the song.

Enjoy yourself and sing it.
